This weekend has flown by and because of my sobriety I have made many wonderful and supportive freinds who also support fully what we do at our house and want the best for everyone.

We now have 12 residents and expect 2 more this week which will put us at 100% capacity.

I hope for all these men and want them to have what I have been so freely given, but I can't do it for them and therefore I get sad and frustrated at times when I see them resisting change and not making strong choices but weak ones that result in the same old thing. If you keep doing what you always did you will keep getting what you always got.

Please keep them all in your prayers and we will gladly accept any help you are able and willing to give....

Tonight, some of us will be going to church services and I look forward to the midweek spiritual uplift. The church has been very helpful with our program and we could not have done it with out them,

The storms that came through earlier were very powerful and glad we didn't get any damage other than a few limbs down. Hope you made it through it ok as well.

I did a house inspection earlier and all passed just fine; as I expected.

GOOD EVENING AND GOD BLESS TO ALL

This has been a great day and thanks to God for it.

Thank all of you who have been keeping us in your prayers

Please keep our house owner, James Avril, in your prayers. He has been very, very sick with some sort of virus; hopefully he will be back to himself in a few days after it has run its course. I had to go to his house to pick up a large package today in Franklin, Tennessee and he has a very nice residence and it was nice getting out to the country for a while. It gave me time to reflect and have gratitude for what had been so freely given me, which is Grace.

We had our weekly house meeting tonight and a lot was shared and discussed. Hopefully, some of the men who have been blown off course will seek the wisdom of God and trust it and get their vessels back on track.

I want to thank Matt for helping me so much to keep this place in order, He has and will do anything I ask him to do if it is for Center House Living. He now has over 6 months sobriety and sets a good example for the others. None of us are perfect, but we tend to emulate the behavior of others that we are around a lot or live with.

Life is great!!!! It is easy to turn on the news and get numbed out to all the pain in the world. Lets rejoice in all the good and make an effort to be the change we want in this world.

Good Evening To All

The past 2 days have been unbelievably nice and boy am I ever thankful to our wonderful creator.

We have a few new additions to our Nashville, Tennessee based addiction recovery support program. The first is Bryan, then Eric and a brand new fellow named Trace. We also have been blessed by having a former resident named Chuck A. come back to uus to fine tune a few things missing in his life. Lets remember to keep them all in our prayers and let the Master go to work.

I was pleased with the way all the units looked tonight when I did the inspection. Everyone seemed calm and looking forward to a new week of possibilities.

This past week has been phenominal and the blessings have been pouring in. This past week I have learned many truths about myself and my life for the previous 43 years. Hind site is 20/20 and if I knew then what I know now. Reality is I made some terrible choices as we all have and when I made them I thought I was making the best chioce with the options available. Be sure to treat yourself good and lighten up. Life is short so don't burden yourself with what should have been or could have been. LIVE FOR THE MOMENT AND FORGIVE OTHERS !!!!!

Is it cold or what outside today?

We welcome a new resident, Daniel B.. He came in yesterday and is settling in before going back to work tomorrow morning. He is fortunate to have a job in these tough economical times and I hope he makes good use of this opportunity to continue getting his life back on track.

The house inspections went well and everyone is doing a great job with their chores, service work etc.

HELLO TO ALL!!!!!!

We are feeling the effects of the Canadian Artic blast in Nashville and it is supposed to be 8 degrees on thursday at some point. I have been refilling the cats water every so often because it freezes so easy.

There was a successful Bible study at Center House last night and we had a really good Tuesday night house meeting in which we discussed our personal values that are close to us. This weeks assignment is on how we have violated our values in the past and how are we currently violating our values presently and what do we have to do to keep our values in check and honor our values.

I will be pariticipating in (Lonnies Lunches) tomorrow. This is where we feed a group of homeless men in order to provide the word of God, encourage and give hope and give brief testimonies. Pastor Mike Rickenbaker, Jeff Newland, other guest and myself usually do this every two weeks and it is usually on a Wednesday around 12 ( noon ). I was extremely nervous to start talking with these men, but I do feel more at ease now.

Let us be thankful for all we have and for this moment in life.

It is too easy to get caught up in what we don't have and wallow in self-pity over the lifetime of missed opportunities and failings. I have had to change my attitude over my past. My past is now a great asset and all the failures I have had just filter out a lot of ways not to do things.

I had to start over from nothing and all the normal enablers in my life were no longer available. I could only call on the strength of God and practice faith and abandon fear. I am no where near what I want to accompolish, but I am no where near that point of utter hopelessness and discouragement I had arrived to in November 2007.

I feel hope!

I am no longer plagued with depression or suicidal thoughts.

I feel a sense of purpose.

I have much greater self-respect

Self-esteem is rising

Growing spiritually.

Have decent friends.

No longer an imposter.

Try to give to others; not take, take, take.

I am making progress 1 day at a time.

I am a believer!!

HELLO TO ALL!!!!

This has been a good day as usual and we all have a lot to be grateful for. Good things are happening to us and we all can thank our good Lord for the blessings.

We were expecting two new residents, but other plans must have come up for them. I just hope and pray they made good decisions and are not headed further on down the wide path of destruction.

We have a good houseful now and we are operating @ about 40% of capacity and we need to fill our beds so things can keep running smoothly as far as finances go. I believe in Center House and it's staff and current residents and I also know we have a lot to offer. I also have prayed about his matter and have turned the situation over to God and now the results are in his hands, therefore, I will get out of the way and let him work his miracle.

Soon it will be Spring!!! Spring and Fall are my favorite seasons of the year and I look forward to everything blooming again. We have about 75 days left till much nicer weather.

We ha d a productive Tuesday night meeting yesterday and I really do wish the very best for these men trying to get their lives back on track. The poor economy has hit just about everyone that I know, especially these men that come to Center House from jail and prison because they are already handicapped with a permanent record and a lot of employers are going with men who have no record. I know God is everything and will provide as long as we are faithful and keep our faith and do what we know to be right. Our conscience will be our beacon and I believe God instilled us with the ability to know right from wrong.

Hello All!!!

We just had our Tuesday night house meeting and had tremendous prayer time with Jeff Newland and then we had a feelings check in with all the residents. There was a lot of gratitude in the room along with sadness and joy, but, no one here is living the old lifestyle filled with sin.

We have 2 new people and 1 past resident that are supposed to come in to Center House this coming week. I hope it works out that everyone gets here safely with a strong desire to change and have God work in their lives.

My son, Roman, arrives in West Palm Beach, Florida today for a visit with my sister, Terri and brother n' law, CT. She said earlier it was only 80 degrees there today. Envy popped up because it is cold here in Nashville and it has rained for 2 days now. I am looking forward to us having a snow or two this year, but God is in charge of that.

Ours cats are getting fat and we are going to put them on a diet.

Matt is our new senior peer and I have placed him in charge over the brown house. The reason for this he has done what he is supposed to and has completed all comittments. He will take on the resposibility of explaing how program paperwork is to be done. He will give me reports directly on both the good and bad and we will deal with it accordingly. Congratulations!!!

All units looked great and I know unit 4 spent hours getting their apartment satisfactorily cleaned. Thanks goes to Matt and Patrick and a big thank you goes to James G. and Wayne for always keeping their apartment spotless and smelling fantastic.

We all had a great party at Celebrate Recovery on New Years Eve. The desserts were tempting but I was able to resist. That is a new behavior I have been putting into practice.

Matt and Todd are out raking the left over leaves and making a contribution to Center House and providing service work. Service work is a vital element of our staying sober and in the will of God. I cannot be self-absorbed and self centered when I am helping others and making their quality of life better.

Center House has its usual Tuesday night house meeting at 7 pm. This is a time where residents, staff, owners and alumni attend to participate in lifeskills class, house bussiness and settle up on dues owed.

I want to welcome our two newest arrivals. James is from South Carolina and has been sober going on 2 years, but feels the need to keep up with the neccessary disciplines and structure Center House Living offers and the therapeutic environment that offers stability and an environment that has a lot more safety and accountability than living on ones own. Our second new arrival came to us today and his name is Todd C.. Todd came to us from the Salvation Army program and he has almost 9 months of sobriety; the Salvation Army is doing away with its transistional living part of the program and when on graduates their program they must move on to make room for more individuals to enter their primary treatment program. I feel they have a lot of positive energy and will be an asset to Center House Living and the community as well.

WRITINGS FROM JEFF NEWLAND

MUDDY CROSSROADS

The Lord works in mysterious ways. It’s not because He wishes to be some grand mysterio behind the scenes , rather He has chosen to work through humanity to humanity ; and to work through humanity means using flawed tools in the hands of a Master Carpenter to complete a divine plan ; employing living , stubborn sacrifices to fulfill His intended mission for the kingdom here on earth .
It is our own imperfection and stubbornness and prideful thinking that make God’s way having to be so mysterious. For His work to make such an impact upon us it has to come first hand, or we, in all of our stubborn pride, wouldn’t grasp it to the heart. We have to get it in our hearts because that is where we believe and conceive notions and passions and things that we would actually die for. It is in the heart where our values, morals, and ethics are birthed; this is where relationships are developed and this is where what we live for is governed. For you will live out actively in the natural, what you truly believe in your heart. If it doesn’t make it to our hearts we will continue to say
“That wouldn’t ever happen to me. “
So God allows our free will and spirit to govern our lives in the aspect that his will, will be seen through all the rubble we cause. It will be like that shining light at the end of the tunnel for a fallen miner. One who has fallen into the depths of the inescapable crevice. Looking at doctor’s diagnosis which read 6 months to live or at the graveside of a child’s life which has been snubbed out way too soon; or that glimpse of the surface as a desperate driver makes his way from a watery grave to a realm of air and fresh breath of life. It’s that verdict which cries out, “You are a menace to society.” “You will never amount to anything.” “35 years to serve before parole.”
Through it all: sickness. Death, courts and illicit lifestyles, never looking fully into the face of a Savior. Finally someone falls to a weary knee, and cries out; then the doctors become baffled, comfort draws near and a life sentence becomes time served.
These are impacts of aberrations. Something outside of the mainstream of our life strikes hard and unexpectedly much like a falling meteor creating a massive, smoldering crevice in our lives. But God, who is not only the Creator of the universe but also the Savior (the Rescuer) of mankind uses these impacts to first move us towards a contrite spirit, a bended knee and a hollow heart and as hot tears flow up out of that hollowness, filling our eyes and running down our cheeks, He then positions us for revelation that will carry us through it all.
I am no different. I have had a to come to muddied crossroads, where no matter which way I traveled it was to be difficult and there were no golden decisions to be made that would illuminate the future, nor make my present condition any more tolerable.
Like gold nuggets to a 49’er the wisdom of the Lord has to be mined, dug out. Not because the Lord is some selfish suppressor, but because we are. We tend to believe that we can make our own fate and in a sense we can, but left into our hands alone, we will build walls between relationships, chasms between potential and a darkened gulf between the Heavens.
That gift of a free spirit is both a blessing and a curse because with it we can actually hinder or even stop the move of God in our lives. The human will is one of is one of the most powerful forces in the universe, if we do not truly want God-even though his mercies are renewed every morning- we will not receive.
On the flip side of this; if we submit and surrender our human will over to God’s will, in that act of complete surrender lies tremendous victory. There is something paramount in a free will spirit looking towards an Almighty God and crying out from a hollow heart,
“Woe is me, I am unclean; but You are all knowing and all powerful. I can’t do this, but You can, so not my will but Thine be done. “
The roads may become muddied; the valleys may seem to sink ever so lower and the mountains, which we must climb, seem to rise higher and higher with each desperate scale.
Loved ones going off to war, economy falling into recession, Wall Street giants receiving hand outs while the inner city children still go hungry. Low valleys, high mountains, muddy crossroads are in the path of life.
In the season of which we dwell, the only decision that can be made with a substantial outcome is ‘let go & let God ‘. Then, no matter how muddy the road or how difficult the travel, or how perplexed the other decisions seem, in the end result my God shall be my solution.
This is where humanity coincides with the Divine, for if in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. We have to allow the trouble and trauma from this life to enrich us for the afterlife and to cultivate our character so that wherever we may go, our character (our values, ethics and gifts; who we truly are) may sustain us, as well as those around us.
For we are a web woven intricately together, by the Divine Weaver, the Lord, Jesus Christ. Each one of us depending upon another for strength and comfort; interacting, networking together designing that unique character in each of us.
For true stability only comes upon completion of the web. Any single thread precariously dangling is subject to the winds and pollution causing it to be trashed and unacceptable for the end product or trashed to the earth to dissipate and never be used in the grand scheme of things.
Thread upon thread, twine upon twine. Precept upon precept and line upon line. Networking together for a common cause: the completion of the web.
No single thread is more dominant, no individual twine nor twist is worthy of any praise. For the web is not a web until all threads and twines come into unity beneath The Divine Weaver’s established objective. Sunday school teachers upon pastors; pastors upon laymen; laymen upon converted convicts; converted convicts upon spirit filled streets; and the streets overflow into the church. We are all part of the divine plan.
For the scales of this world to fall from our eyes and our spiritual sight to be revived we must travel down some muddied roads, cross over some low valleys and be subject to impacts of aberration, which seems to shake the foundations of our very existence. Only to learn that what we believed to be a rock solid foundation has been nothing more than a sandy beach accessible to the tides of life; to come and go as it wills creating crevices in our souls and washing away bits and pieces of who we truly are.
We have the power within to allow these tides of life to wash away the sands of stress and the trash of self, and then we can better see the golden nuggets of wisdom that the Lord has intended for us. To dig deep within our intellect , emotions and experiences with the help of The Holy Spirit, to find those hidden values, those passionate ethics and the spiritual gifts that only a mighty, merciful God could have ever placed within.
As it’s been written, “God is no respecter of persons.” This applies not only with grace and favor but also how He chooses to showcase His power within the lives of His people for their personal revelation. His ways are publicized through the brokenness of lives and even through all of the crevices in our souls – due to the aberrant events – when we shake a fist towards the heavens and proclaim,
“My God, my God, why hast Thou forsaken me. “
He looks down, not from some celestial throne, rather from the viewpoint of a cross and with tear-filled eyes, nail-pierced hands; He cries blood for you and me. His blood reminds us that He understands.
‘Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith: who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of God. For consider Him that endured such contradiction of sinners against Himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds. Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin. And yet have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children. Despise not the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of Him: For whom the Lord loveth He chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom He receiveth. ‘
God chastens us not out of abuse nor His own pleasure, rather for our profit, so that we may be partakers of His holiness. During this time of correction , things become rather chaotic from the natural viewpoint . People turn their backs ; hasty words are spoken ; finances are bleak ; blood pressure rises , hearts beat faster and nerves are frayed even the sunlight seems to hide away ; but for those of us who exercise the righteousness of God during these chaotic times , discipline becomes exhortation and grief is turned into experience . The death of a spouse becomes a time of personal realization of an in depth connection with our feelings and self; to actually see who we really are and to be able to express and work through personal feelings and emotions. Some of us may not ever cry except for the loss of loved ones. The Lord never intended for us to suppress our emotions, rather to release and then refocus on the why’s and how-to’s of life.
Time behind bars: incarceration also becomes a time of personal realization. Realizing what you can and cannot do without. Realizing the importance of liberty and the obedience to such freedom. Not just in the laws of man, but to the laws of God governing ourselves. We tend to rob ourselves of the grateful freedom ever known to man; not the freedom from tyranny nor told what to do rather the freedom from sin, which enslaves us with addictions, poverty, violence, generational curses and animosity and bitterness. Once locked down, stripped of any personal indulgence, we can truly relate to the verse “Be still and know that I am God.”
Then somewhere from behind the clouds sunlight breaks through and wisdom and understanding floods our very being.
I have said all of that to say this.
I am no different. I have had to have the impact of aberrations-something outside of the norm- to move me in a position for revelation.
The revelation that I am to relate entered into my life at one of those muddy crossroads. A place where I had to climb and work hard to make it over the mountainous obstacle which hindered my movement (speaking not only spiritually, but even on a more practical level. A place where questions arose: “How am I to live?” “Where am I to live?” and financially, “Now What?”).
I also had to drudge through one of the lowest of valleys where spirits of melancholy tried to muffle and restrain my spiritual growth and natural prosperity. If it had not been for the grace of God and a true to its name Church, then I would not have only been restrained rather I would have become one of those dismal spirits wandering in those low valleys ready to suppress others.
As it’s been said before; we are all part of a web, a network amongst souls and we will affect one another in some form or fashion until the threads and twines are both trashed and lost or the completion of the web. This publicized revelation came to me during a season in my life where bodily injury, career decisions and the loss of a loved fell upon me unexpectedly, all at once.
No fancy metaphors of stormy tides, nor fallen meteors, just life on life’s terms.

The honest will be rescued from harm but those who are crooked will be destroyed. 19. Hard workers have plenty of food; playing around brings poverty. 20. The trusyworthy will get a rich reward. But the person who wants to get rich quick will only get in trouble.

I am sure I have people reading this that agree they wish they would have studied the Bible much earlier in life then they did. I also have to remember that I was openminded to receive the Bible in the way it is supposed to be received. I now have a lot of role models that also have studied the Bible and live it accordingly and are more than willing to see that we are given every opportunity to learn it and apply it to our lives.

Its back to more seasonal temperatures today, but we all sure enjoyed the 73 degree temperature yesterday.

I wanted to help hunger for the area animals without a home and so I started feeding the cats recently. They sre skiddish about coming up to me, but I can tell they are gaining weight and that gives me a good feeling. We have at least 4 outdoor cats that come for a meal throughout the day. I just wish I had a simple solution for keeping their water bowl from freezing when the temperature drops below freezing.

JB has returned from a trip to New York to see his family and he said he had a wonderful time. He got home around midnight and had to be at work at 6 a.m.. I'm glad I didn't have to get by on that little of sleep and go to work.

I will be checking chores today in all the units. They have been doing well keeping a clean house and are agreeable to do so if I find something that needs to be done.

It is 73 degrees outside today and It is so nice to have the windows up and the door open to air out this house. It is just like a beautiful Spring day. Thank you Jesus.

All is well at Center House and thank God for all the changes being made in the lives of its residents, staff and ownership. I am very thankful and privelaged to have this opportunity to try to serve others by being a part of this program.

Several of us will be going to a local facility that host 12 step meetings tonight. Thank God for the 12 steps and all that the program offers one to get their life back on track and living life without drugs and alcohol.

We had a great Christmas and look forward to a happy New Year. I will make a list of New Year resoulutions and ask for strength to actually achieve them.

Some of the guys are back from being on pass and they reported having a great time with family and friends.

One of my wishes came true yesterday when my mother left her room in the nursing home to go with us to ride around town looking at Christmas lights, her actual house and see the way Nashville is growing. It has been 30 months since she has been out other than by ambulance. I was happy for her to see where I live now that I am a sober person.

I pray for the safety of the rest of the residents traveling back from their passes.

Several residents are going out of town to visit family as far away as New York. I will be spending time visiting my mother and will see my son for a while. My sister is in Florida so we will have to visit by phone and by email. My Aunt and Uncle from Alabama will be visiting. They have always remained supportive of me through all the years of my unclean living; hoping I would eventually make better decisions and turn my life back over to God. Well, that did happen in November 2007 and I'm not dwelling in the past anymore.

This scripture rings bells in my life. In recovery I have had to face my past honestly and I can clearly see how I got myself in all sorts of financial trouble by spending unwisely and misusing credit. I have had to throw my expensive taste out the window and learn to live within my means. I have learned to budget and get by on less. Just watch the news and see how bad our economy is and I am very thankful I did not have a lot of monthly bills and credit cards etc. when the stock market crashed recently.

It is a beautiful day outside and today is the Winter Solstace, this is the shortest day of the year.

I want to thank the residents of Center House for being pleasant, agreeable and compliant with house rules for the most part. It is always nice on my end when I don't have to deal with any negative issues, but we are fallable human beings and we tend to lean toward doing the wrong thing, but God is available at all times to call on him for that strength.

I tried to think of something nice to do and came up with feeding the outdoor cats around Center House. They are good to have around and are a natural way to keep mice away. They eat about one bowl of foood a day and I am sure that will increase as these cats tell their other cat buddies

I know a lot of people can relate to this scripture because I do not know a single addict/alcoholic who hasn't negatively affected at least 10 people and our famalies are often the ones who suffer the most. My mother spent many countless nights wondering if I were dead or alive or if I were safe or locked up. It's a blessing to be able to offer her a sober son and to give her comfort in what could be, her final days.
I want to welcome Patrick, our newest resident from East Tennessee; it took him and his family many hours of driving in the pouring down rain to get here.

We all want to express gratitude for the added residents of Center House; we need 3 more to be at capacity. I believe we are doing a good thing at Center House and as our Alumni grows, so will we.
I ran into Eric J. the other day and he seems to be doing well and still working hard. Eric is one of our Alumni who recently completed the addiction recovery support program of Center House Living. Way to Eric!!!!

We had an awesome Bible study and a great meal prepared for us from a member of First Church here in Nashville.

Tonight is our house meeting and I always look forward to it every week. This is a time to learn a life skill and is a time to bring up concerns with the way the house is going and any concerns others have for other residents, etc.

Tis the season to be jolly fa lala la la la la. This season is being enjoyed like none other in the past few years at least. I don't have much money for gifts this year but I do have the spirit.
We had an awesome bible study last night. We are on lesson 6 in the New Testament and while every word of the Bible is important, this to me is where I am the most attentive. We want to thank the volunteers for bringing the study to us every week and for this sacrifice of time.
Eric J. has successfully completed all Center House requirements and will be commencing tonight. He was a great roomate and is a good friend and he will be missed. I have encouraged him to remain involved and be active in our alumni.

Whoever stubbornly refuses to accept criticism will suddenly be broken beyond repair.

We talked about god and coming to a spiritual experience or awakening in a 12 step meeting last night. The responses were great and right on time for me because I don't stay spirtually connected every second of every day. It was a relief to hear that most of the people I know had only a mustard seed of faith or none at all in the beginning and as time slowly passed their faith began to grow and sprout branches and fully bloom. None said they had a burning bush experience.
The best thing I heard last night was that you can't see the wind but you can see the results of the wind. I can't see god but I can see the results of him. I have never heard him speak out loud but I have heard him speak through others. The main is I have to do the work or voice my prayers and then let go 100% so god can handle the results.
Do a random act of kindness for someone today.

Well folks, it's now 27 shopping days until Christmas and I haven't even started yet. The nice thing about sobriety and trying to live by christian principles is we learn the importance of the birth of Christ and the spending money you don't have on things you can't afford on people who may not enjoy the gifts becomes much less important and the enjoying of your time with family, friends and those less fortunate become a much higher priority and have a greater meaning. The Nashville Tennessee based, Center House Living, residents give a huge thank you once again to the men and ladies of Celebrate Recovery who so cheerfully provided our Thanksgiving feast. We also want to express gratitude to all who keep us in their prayers, provide donations and dues assistance to those coming out of incarceration, treatment programs and others deemed acceptable for admittance, but just don't have the up front finances to get in. As far as the scripture of the day, I remember vividly living in a constant state of paranoia and thought everyone was out to get me when I was in active addiction and not living right. We received a huge Thanksgiving Day feast from Larry and Linda Curtis of Nashville on behalf of the Celebrate Recovery Group which meets in Nashville Tennessee on Thursday nights at 7 p.m. at First Church on Charlotte Pike. We are very thankful and I believe every resident here can remember a time each of us went hungry due to addiction and alcoholism related lifestyles of the past. In addition, Jean, who also attends Celebrate Recovery, made us the very best carot cake I have ever had in my lifetime.
In addition to receiving the feast, every resident, of Center House addiction and alcoholism halfway house, all came together to heat up all the food.We hadmore for this feast than I can ever remember in my past and this really put me in the holliday spirit and made us all feel apart of instead of apart from and I had so much fun doing this that I forgot and and all problems or discomforts I may have had.
The scripture of the day is fitting. We, of Center House praise God and our brothers and sisters of Celebrate Recovery for an outstanding effort and for their thoughtfulness and hard work in making this possible today.

Honor doesn't go with fools any more than snow with summer or rain with harvest.

We have such a magnificient God. He has been so good to me even when I was good to him and has shrouded me with protection through all troubles I created and was a part of. Today is my 1 year sobriety anniversary which is significant and full of meaning and God gets the credit. This would not have been possible if I had not surrounded myself with people that care and were supportive; that list of people is very long. I have lived @ Center House for 1 year today; remained active in my 12 step programs, prayed, took simple suggestions and began to apply slowly what I learned. This 1 year of sobriety didn't just happen; it was accumulated 1 day at a time and often times one hour at a time. This is not a destination for me but rather a mile marker of where I am in this walk of life with God.
Our sponsor church, First Church, is blessing the residents of Center House with Thanksgiving dinner. I will be getting with Larry C. of First Church to receive the dinner and share true thanks.
It is a picture perfect day outside and tomorrow is supposed to be unseasonably warm as well. Please remember to walk with an attitude of gratitude and give thanks to all.

The sun is out bright, the temperature is mild and comfortable and we are rooting for our Tennessee Titans to pull off another win.
Brian E., former resident of Center House in Nashville,Tn., made a decision to return to our Christ centered recovery program and made the trip from West Tennessee to Middle Tennessee late yesterday. He made a good choice because he knows Center House promotes good, clean and healthy living and is a secure and safe environment to be a part of.
The residents of CENTERHOUSELIVING.COM also want to extend a huge thank you to our volunteers who provide our Bible studies from The First Church and to all the people involved in the Celebrate Recovery program held on Thursday night at The First Church. All is well at the Center House Living addiction recovery support program in Nashville, Tennessee.
It's cold season again and we have one home from work sick today and I hope this cold bug doesn't decide to spread around to any others. Please remember to wash hands often and take vitamin c.
Our half way house had it's usual weekly house meeting last night and the topic on grace was brought up and discussed and many great comments were made. We are now working on a life skill class and this weeks assignment is to make out a list of all former jobs and to make note of all skills brought from each individual jobs. Both job skills and character building skills and also life lessons learned from a review of jobs.
Almost all addicts and alcoholics I have ever known have a real problem with not telling the truth and today's scripture focuses on the importance of all people operating with rigerous honesty even when it cost you.

All would agree this is a beautiful day the Lord has made for us. The air is cool and crisp and lets you know Fall is indeed here and Winter to follow. We are coming up on Thanksgiving Day which is an excellent time set aside for all of us to remember how many blessings we do have. I have been guilty of complaining about this and that and whenever I do that I forget all I should be grateful for. After all we live in the best country on planet Earth and we don't live in war torn areas and we have a civilized government and in my opinion most people are good and honest. I could could go on and on about our blessings, but the main thing is do you realize it.

SCRIPTURE FOR THE DAY: PROVERBS 18:2

FOOLS HAVE NO INTEREST IN UNDERSTANDING; THEY ONLY WANT AIR THEIR OWN OPINIONS

This reminds me of another saying I have heard which is " Do not have contempt prior to investigation".

So many times in my life I thought I knew everything and cut myself off from my fellow man and cut myself off from learning.

Our Half-way recovery home that is Christ centered has been blessed and continues to go forward during both times of feast and famine. We are fortunate to have great leadership and a great group of men living at the Center House Living recovery center.

Scripture for the day: Proverbs 17:4
WRONGDOERS LISTEN TO WICKED TALK; LIARS PAY ATTENTION TO DESTRUCTIVE WORDS

While I was in active addiction before coming to Center House Living, and in fact most of my life, I lived outside any will of God and hind sight is 20/20 and I can give you many examples of where I listened to people I shouldn't have and I had a big problem telling the truth. With the total surrender I made it has been much easier to tell the truth even when it's going to cost me and I don't give people I know are liars the time of day.

It's another nice day and the leaves are really falling. Matt and I are going to all units and changing all smoke detectors and check all air filters.

Tonight we will have our weekly Bible study class from 7-8 p.m. with members of our church sponsor. The class is helpful and informative and gives even a novice like me a solid foundation to build on.

We are accepting applications and do have openings for those who wish to try a different way of living and want to give up the high cost of low living.

Matt's Testimony

Center House has done just what the name says it has helped center me. Here I have gotten into the habit of going to A.A. meetings on a regular basis, working at a job that i like and going to Celebrate Recovery which is awesome. I also started to develop other productive habits like keeping a clean house and budgeting my money. Center house is just a small step in my overall development but the relationship that I have with God and the healthy habits I've learned here I'm sure have given me some things that hopefully will always be with me. Center House is a place with structure and rules but it also has given me both room and inspiration to be a better man.

The cool air is refreshing and the bright sun is nice today. The leaves are coming down heavy now at the Center House Living recovery home in Nashville, Tennessee.

The residents of Center House will soon have to plan a leaf raking party and general lawn care etc. We will probably get yard tools together and chut down a perished tree in front yard as well as trim all the bushes, tree limbs and overgrowth around our property line to prepare for the Spring.

Adam F. successfully completed the Center House program this past Tuesday and has left to return home with his mother and father before attending college this Spring at the Watkins Art Institute. He is a very talented artist and we see Adam going far in his new found life.

All the units in our half way house were inspected and passed for cleanliness and all looked great. Way to go fellows. Keep up the good work and effort.

Kevins Testimony

Center House has been a true blessing to me. I see eeveryday how people in recovery cope day to day life while staying sober. That helps to show me that I can live life clean and sober. I learn something new every day from the other men I live with and from the curriculum that Center House follows. This is also the first time in a long while that I feel like I can be a productive member of society.

Weekend report from Chip

This has been a wonderful Saturday at Center House. Everyone seems to be in a great spot and enjoying their day. This is unusual for 9 residents to be doing so well for a recovery home.
I was in another half-way house before Center House where there was no accountability, structure or recovery house feel. It was just a place to lay my head with no clear direction to progress.
The Nashville halfway house residential bedrooms all looked great when I inspected them today and everyone seems to be growing in their programs. Each our halfway house residents is at a different level of recovery and I feel encouraged to see others participating and helping out where they can.
J.B., one of our senior peers is healing from a work accident and seems to be recovering fine. He can cheer people up just being around them. Keep up the good work J.B..
We now have 2 new residents. Keith came to us from a local treatment program and he is from West Tennessee and we also have Pat who came to us 10 days ago. They are both settling in O.K. and have showed a great deal of willingness and desire to better themselves. I consider being a resident of Center House Recovery Home to be a wonderful privelage and I confidently expect great events and miracles to continue to take place.

A word from JB, my Brother

My name is JB, six months ago i came to center house. I sought out a recovery house in nashville TN. Now at this time i had five years sober but i found myself slipping and knew it was time to find some friends. But little did i know i would find a family! When i came to center house james grabbed my stuff and moved me in himself. It was a tuesday and i got to see my first house meeting. Jeff Newland became a spiritual advisor for me ever inviting me to his church and visiting me at my work. I have not made the best choices in the past year but my move to center house "A CENTER IN RECOVERY" was a good choice.

Over the past three weeks Center House Living has seen progress towards being one of the best Halfway houses in Nashville Tennessee area. With the help of of a couple of men who have a true heart for God, the Monday night Bible study has become a time of growth for the men. The teachings are creating men of integrity and men of love. For a recovery home this is not something that is seen very often and I am so grateful to be a part of this growth. The Center House recovery home appreciates your prayers and gifts.

The Next Step Reward Program.

Center House has some very exciting news!
Center House Living Recovery Homes is now offering “The Next Step Reward Program”. The following guidelines to complete the Next Step Reward Program are:

1. No Disciplinarians of any house rules.

2. No missed program payments.

3. Attendance of all Tuesday night Life Skills Meetings.

4. Completion of 9 Celebrate Recovery Meetings in a 90 day period.

5. Completion of 2 Monday Night Bible Studies.

6. Completion of program, one year, and five year goals sheets

Upon completion you will receive a $100 gift card to Wal-Mart and $25 gift card to the restaurant of choice. Also you will receive a letter of completion and recommendation.

As a Recovery Home we are always looking to create a great environment for our residents. We want to go beyond the average Halfway House and we ask for any suggestions you may have.
